Grocery Shopping

Chedraui is one of the main grocery stores in Mexico. To get food I would go here, Walmart or a local farmers market. In most of the bigger grocery stores they have fresh bread, fresh desserts and homemade tortillas. You can see in the picture below that most of the pasties are sitting out on the shelf uncovered. I’ve seen this in different Walmarts and differnt Chedraui stores. The last picture is gigantic pork skins. My mom loves these so I had to take a picture for her. In the US these would come in a bag the size of potato chips. As a whole, grocery shopping in Mexico was interesting.

Visiting the local park
Here’s a local park I visited a couple of times. It was right up the street from the first hotel I stayed at. They had places to sit, a small restaurant, books to read, aerial exercises, Tai Chi/Karate classes and a stage for outdoor concerns. I loved the fact that it had a lot of greenery.

Riding the ADO BUS

The ADO bus is like the Greyhound but in the US. It’s a large bus that holds about 40 people. It has terminals in different cities in Mexico. I know the ADO will take you to the city of Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, the Cancun airport and a couple of other places. To find the cities and time you can look the information on their website or on the ADO Bus app. I took the bus from Playa Del Carmen to the Cancun airport. The bus at the Turistica Terminal in Playa Del Carmen will take you straight to the airport. The price of the one way ticket was $11 and I purchased it online. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the terminal. Buying your ticket online will ensure you have a reserved seat in advance. You also get to pick the location of your seat when you purchase online. When pulling up the the website you’ll notice it’s in Spanish but good will translate it to English. That makes buying a ticket easier than purchaing in person if you are not a fluent Spanish speaker.

There is an atm, bathroom and a store inside in the terminal. In the store you can purchase hot food, water, soda and snacks. You’ll see people coming and going in the staton because buses are pulling in every few minutes. Your bus will arrive about 5 minutes before departure. The attendant will check your ticket to make sure it’s valid for the bus ride. If you are uncertain about the bus you are getting on you can always ask the driver or attendant where the bus is going. Taking the bus was pretty simple and you won’t get lost or get on the wrong bus. Ask questions when needed (use google translate) and pay attention.
